Verity Parent Consent Agreement

Effective Date: May 29, 2026

This Parent Consent Agreement ("Agreement") governs a parent or legal guardian's authorization for a child to use Verity.

This Agreement supplements the Verity Privacy Policy, Children's Privacy (COPPA) Addendum, Terms of Service, and Acceptable Use Policy.

By creating a child profile, checking the consent box, clicking "I Agree," or otherwise permitting a child to use Verity, you agree to this Agreement.

1. Purpose of This Agreement

Verity is an AI-powered literacy platform designed to help students in grades 3-8 improve:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Critical reasoning
  • Written communication
  • Literacy confidence
  • Independent thinking

Because many users are under the age of 13, Verity requires parental consent before collecting or processing a child's information.

This Agreement serves as that consent.

2. Parent Verification

By accepting this Agreement, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You are the child's parent or legal guardian.
  • You have authority to provide consent on the child's behalf.
  • The information you provide is accurate.

Providing false information may result in account suspension or termination.

3. Authorization to Create a Child Profile

You authorize Verity to create and maintain a profile for your child containing information reasonably necessary to provide educational services.

This information may include:

  • Child first name
  • Grade level
  • Country
  • State, province, or territory

Verity does not require children to provide last names.

4. Authorization to Collect Educational Information

You authorize Verity to collect and process educational information submitted by your child while using the Service.

This may include:

Calibration Assessments

Responses submitted during reading and writing placement assessments used to determine instructional level.

Reading Exercises

Responses to:

  • Reading comprehension activities
  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Short-answer questions
  • Critical reasoning activities

Writing Exercises

Responses to:

  • Paragraph writing
  • Essay writing
  • Reflection prompts
  • Literacy assessments

Progress Information

Educational indicators generated from child performance, including:

  • Reading proficiency levels
  • Writing proficiency levels
  • Calibration scores
  • Recalibration results
  • Literacy growth metrics
  • Progress history

5. Authorization for AI Processing

You authorize Verity to use artificial intelligence technologies to analyze educational responses and generate educational feedback.

Verity currently utilizes Anthropic's Claude API.

AI processing may be used to:

  • Assess reading performance
  • Assess writing performance
  • Generate personalized feedback
  • Recommend exercise difficulty
  • Support educational personalization
  • Track literacy growth

AI-generated feedback is intended solely for educational purposes.

6. Understanding AI Limitations

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI systems may make mistakes.
  • AI-generated feedback may be incomplete.
  • AI-generated feedback may contain inaccuracies.
  • AI outputs should not be considered professional educational advice.
  • AI outputs should not be considered psychological evaluations.
  • AI outputs should not be considered medical advice.

Parents remain responsible for educational decisions affecting their children.

7. Educational Nature of Verity

You understand that Verity is:

  • An educational enrichment platform
  • A literacy development tool

Verity is not:

  • A school
  • A tutoring service
  • A diagnostic assessment
  • A psychological evaluation
  • A medical service
  • A substitute for professional educational support

8. Parent Rights

As a parent or legal guardian, you may:

  • Review your child's information
  • Review educational responses
  • Review AI-generated feedback
  • Review literacy assessments
  • Correct information
  • Delete information
  • Revoke consent

These rights may be exercised through your account or by contacting Verity.

9. Revoking Consent

You may revoke consent at any time.

If consent is revoked:

  • Child access may be terminated.
  • Educational processing may cease.
  • Child information may be deleted upon request.

Revocation does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.

10. No Advertising to Children

You acknowledge that:

  • Verity does not display third-party advertising to children.
  • Verity does not use children's information for targeted advertising.
  • Verity does not sell children's personal information.

11. No Public Communication Features

You understand that children cannot:

  • Message other users
  • Participate in forums
  • Maintain public profiles
  • Publicly post content through Verity

All educational work remains private within the child's account and parent dashboard.

12. Child Submissions

You agree to instruct your child not to submit sensitive personal information through Verity, including:

  • Home addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Personal email addresses
  • Passwords
  • Government identification numbers
  • Financial information
  • Medical information

Verity's educational exercises do not require this information.

13. International Processing

You understand that information may be processed by Verity and its service providers in:

  • Canada
  • United States

as described in the Privacy Policy.

14. Security

Verity uses reasonable safeguards designed to protect information.

However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

You acknowledge the inherent risks associated with internet-based services.

15. Consent to Electronic Communications

You agree to receive electronic communications from Verity, including:

  • Consent confirmations
  • Account notices
  • Educational updates
  • Billing notices
  • Privacy notices
  • Policy updates

Electronic communications satisfy legal requirements for written communications where permitted by law.

16. Confirmation of Consent

By selecting "I Agree," creating a child profile, or otherwise permitting a child to use Verity, you confirm that:

  • You are the child's parent or legal guardian.
  • You have read the Privacy Policy.
  • You have read the Children's Privacy (COPPA) Addendum.
  • You understand how Verity processes information.
  • You consent to the collection and processing of your child's information as described.
  • You authorize AI-assisted educational feedback.
  • You understand your rights regarding your child's information.
  • You voluntarily provide consent for your child to use Verity.
